Steeped in
History
So much of Pyrmont Bay’s appeal lies in the preservation of its unique character and the heritage landmarks that line its streets, many of them carved from the local sandstone that defines this peninsula community. While its roots may be working class, Pyrmont Bay’s present is pure urban sophistication, with Grande referencing this history and bringing it very much into the 21st century.

FULL OF CHARACTER, WITH A PROUD STORY TO TELL.
It’s hard to imagine Pyrmont Bay filled with the sounds of quarrying, smoke from iron works and power stations and sweet smells from the Colonial Sugar Refinery (CSR) which dominated the area. However, in the early 1900s there were two power stations, three sandstone quarries, 20 wool stores and 27 pubs, a handful of which are still serving drinks to this day. Pyrmont Bay’s allure comes from a harmonious integration of its new buildings with its old, such as the former Pyrmont Post Office and the Old Pyrmont Bay Cottages, a row of historic cottages that have seen many incarnations.
